The Texas Company, known today as Texaco Inc., first discovered oil at Sour Lake, Texas in 1903. That was followed by the construction of the first Texaco refinery at Port Arthur, Texas, and a system to market its product. By 1905, just two years later, Texaco had even entered the European market. By 1928, Texaco was marketing its oil in all 48 states and was the first oil company to do so.
At the same time Texaco was experiencing meteoric growth, another American company - with a name that would also become a household word - was beginning to gain recognition. Mack Trucks, Inc. got its start when two of the five Mack brothers took over the Fallesen wagon factory in Brooklyn, New York. Other brothers soon added their talents and the company moved from horse-drawn wagons to motorized busses. In 1905, two years after Texaco discovered oil, the company moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania, which soon became known as "the truck capital of the world." MACK trucks soon became respected around the world for toughness, reliability, quality engineering and excellent design.
Now, these two towering names in American automotive and industrial history are combined in a handsome die-cast model. An early 1920 MACK AC Tanker is marked with Texaco's original name, "The Texas Company" and the familiar Texaco Star. Your model is produced by - and available only from - Matchbox Collectibles.
